Our mission is to train, inspire, and mentor the next generation of engineering leaders who solve problems of societal importance, collaborate as productive team members, act professionally and ethically, and engage in life-long learning.
We prepare students to plan, design, and maintain the essential infrastructure that supports modern life — from bridges, roads, and buildings to levees, coastal systems, and transportation networks. Civil engineers play a vital role in creating resilient cities and managing natural resources, ensuring that communities remain safe, mobile, and sustainable. We also prepare environmental engineers, who design systems and develop solutions to protect public health and the planet by tackling pollution, waste, and resource management.
Our alumni work all over the nation to keep water and air clean and make communities safer. LSU engineers make an average of $86,000 a year.
We aim to be the state and regional leader in extending the state of knowledge and technology through forward-thinking, innovative, fundamental and applied research. Our faculty conduct research in several areas, including coastal engineering, environmental engineering, geotechnical and geophysical engineering, material modeling and visualization, structural engineering, transportation engineering, and water resources engineering.
