Our mission is to prepare students to lead in fields such as software development, AI, analytics, cybersecurity, computer graphics and visualization, and video game design.
In the classroom and in the lab, students work in cutting-edge areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, human-computer interaction, computational science, and high-performance Computing. These diverse areas of study provide students with the opportunity to engage in groundbreaking work that has real-world impact. LSU engineers and computer scientists make an average of $86,000 a year.
Our faculty work in artificial intelligence and machine learning, cybersecurity, data science, high-performance computing, and software engineering. Other key areas include computer vision, bioinformatics, networking, and human-computer interaction. With a strong focus on interdisciplinary collaboration, LSU’s computer science research contributes to solving complex real-world challenges, earning national and international recognition for its impact and excellence.
Faculty run 15 different research groups, including labs dedicated to AI and cybersecurity. Our Cybersecurity Clinic gives students real-world experience by providing free cybersecurity services to small businesses that otherwise cannot afford to hire a consultant. More than 70 Louisiana companies have been served.
